A Christian Apologetics Perspective!

Judaism is one of the world’s oldest religious traditions. Its roots go back to the covenantal relationship between God and Abraham’s descendants. With a rich history spanning thousands of years, this religion has shaped religious philosophy and influenced both Christianity and Islam.

However, when examined through the lens of Christian apologetics, we cannot ignore its significance. Theologically speaking, Judaism diverged after the arrival of Jesus Christ. According to the Bible, the assertion that Israel was selected as God’s covenant people was always contingent. The Old Testament, particularly through the words of prophets such as Isaiah and Jeremiah, repeatedly warns Israel about the consequences of breaking its covenant with God. Prime examples include the Babylonians’ destruction of the First Temple and the Romans’ subsequent destruction of the Second Temple in A.D. They are often interpreted as evidence that Israel failed to uphold its end of the divine agreement.

Jesus Christ entered the religious landscape at a time when messianic expectations were high. He was not the political savior many Jews anticipated. Instead, His mission was one of spiritual salvation, where He was there to offer a new covenant that extended beyond Israel to the Gentiles. This transition, as foretold in Matthew 21:43, was the reason for the gospel kingdom to pass from the Jewish nation to those willing to accept Christ’s teachings. Christian apologetics argues that this marked the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and signified a pivotal moment in religious philosophy.

From a scientific creationism perspective, both Judaism and Christianity are correlated. How? Both of these religions affirm that God is the creator of the universe. Yet, while Judaism remains tied to the Torah and rabbinic traditions, Christianity builds upon this foundation by incorporating the teachings of Jesus Christ. For example, the early Christian church understood Christ as the fulfillment of the Old Testament law and the ultimate revelation of God’s will. In contrast, Judaism has continued to develop post-Temple traditions based on rabbinic interpretation, which may lead to the second coming of Jesus.

However, in the debate between theism vs. atheism, Christianity provides a strong case for belief in God. The fine-tuning of the universe, the moral argument, and the historical reliability of Jesus’ resurrection all provide evidence for God’s existence, as does the idea that Christianity is an enduring system of faith. While Judaism acknowledges a creator, it does not embrace the same level of integration between science and faith as Christianity and has lost its foundation as a result of Jews rejecting Jesus’ covenant.

While there is evidence that Christianity is the covenant faith, many people question whether Judaism is still the covenant faith, or if the covenant has shifted to those who accept Christ as the Messiah. According to the New Testament, Jesus is the cornerstone that was rejected by Israel, but He remains the foundation upon which the Christian worldview is built. In light of this, the gospel extends an invitation to all, including Jews, to accept the fulfillment of God’s promise through Christ.

The question remains: Will they accept it before it is too late?
