Keeping God Close

A Simple Path to Staying Grounded in Faith

Staying close to God is something many believers desire but often feel unsure how to maintain. You may believe in Jesus with your whole heart, yet still find yourself slipping spiritually. Sin whispers, distractions steal focus, and life grows noisy. Before we realize it, we can drift from the peace and strength we once felt.

Just like physical health requires daily care, spiritual health requires attention and intention. You would not stay healthy by ignoring your body. Likewise, you cannot stay spiritually steady without feeding your faith.

King David understood this well when he wrote: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11). David did not simply know God’s Word. He lived it, breathed it, and protected it. That is what it means to stay holy in God.

To remain spiritually strong, you need four steady practices:

1. Know God’s Word

Faith deepens when you understand who God is and what He promises. The Bible is your guidebook, your anchor, and your protection. Reading Scripture is not about speed; it is about allowing truth to settle into your heart.

2. Practice His Word

Knowledge becomes wisdom when it is lived out. Showing kindness, choosing forgiveness, resisting temptation, and making time for God—these are choices that strengthen your spirit.

3. Pray Honestly

Prayer is not a performance. It is a conversation with God about your fears, hopes, challenges, and gratitude. When you pray daily, your relationship with Him grows, and your heart becomes more sensitive to His direction, and you move closer to Him and His grace.

4. Stay Committed

Just like brushing your teeth protects your mouth, daily time with God protects your spirit. Where neglect creates decay, consistency in prayer builds strength and helps you to stay committed to God, no matter what the circumstances.

Even Jesus Himself fought temptation with Scripture. In the wilderness, He responded to the enemy’s lies by speaking God’s truth. This is the same protection available to you.

It is important to remember that God’s goal is not for you to be perfect but to be close to Him. He forgives, restores, strengthens, and guides with patience.

Life Song Journal and Devotional: 365 Day Devotional supports this daily closeness. With gentle daily reflections, it helps you pause, focus on Scripture, and realign your heart with God, even if it’s just for a few minutes at a time. It is a steady companion for anyone who wants a stronger, more grounded walk with the Lord.

If you want to stay spiritually healthy, begin simply and open God’s Word each day, pray honestly, choose kindness, and protect your heart from anything that draws you away from His truth. The more you walk with Him, the more you reflect Him.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
