About the Author
Marilyn Reid was born in Scotland and has been writing since childhood. The traditional stories of Scotland, custom and belief, and what makes people tick are central to her writing. All of her books are carefully researched. After an extensive career in performing arts as a Writer/Director, Marilyn hosted hundreds of drama workshops including tutoring tutors and working with hundreds of children. She used drama techniques to help teachers in classrooms around Scotland make learning fun.
Marilyn’s plays, for adults and young actors, are currently being made ready for publication. These days, Marilyn helps new writers to learn their craft through writing workshops, passing on tips from her experiences.
Now retired from drama, Marilyn writes books for adults and children. Her early learning series, Happy Quack Discovers, makes learning about their natural world fun for children and enjoyable for parents to read too. The first two books in the series are available on Amazon, Happy Quack Discovers Frogs and Happy Quack Discovers Dragonflies. Book 3 is at the creation stage now. A gardener herself, Marilyn’s book Mythical Flower Stories is a great gift for any lover of flowers.
Writing her book about George Don, the Forfar Botanist, took 20 years of research, as she was fulfilling a promise she made when one of her plays included a short scene about The Scottish Botanist George Don. She noticed that a lot of what had been written about him contained repeated errors, and set about telling the full, deep, and meaningful life story of this Scottish Botanist and his contemporaries.
